Last summer, right before school started, we decided that we wanted to do something fun as a family. We chose to drive over to Fort Worth to visit the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and since Dallas wanted to take a friend, we asked our neighbors and their granddaughter, Hailey to go with us. We did so much, and had a great time doing everything. We made paper airplanes in the "How Do Planes Fly" special exhibit, we learned about the Solar System in the Planetarium, we played with all the hand-on exhibits, toured the Cattle Raisers Museum, and so much more. By far, Dallas' favorite part was the dinosaur exhibit and the dino dig, where he and Hailey got to become archeologist and did to find dinosaur bones. To make this layout, I cut out all the pieces using my cricut (Create A Critter, Disney Mickey Font, and Elegant Edges). Then I inked around all the edges using Tim Holtz Tea Dye distress ink, and then started putting it all together. I love how the 3 different pattern papers work so well together, and how the fuzzy ribbon works to anchor the layout. The two little dinosaurs are as cute as can be. I finished it off by printing my journaling on a transparent sheet and tucking and attaching it under the pictures so it would stay down and no one would see the adhesive. Time to start planning this year's pre-school field trip. Every year, since we moved to Denton, we have gone to the University of North Texas football stadium to watch their fireworks show. Dallas and I, both love the show (with the exception that it is crazy loud), and love that we get to spend time with some of the wonderful new friends we have made. This scrapbook page is actually from 2013, but I am just now getting around to blogging about it. It features my son, Dallas and his best friend, and our neighbor, Hailey. I wanted to create a page that screamed Independence Day, which was harder than I thought. I have been scrapbooking for a long time now, and I wanted a page that was unique and different from the others I had made. I decided on some patriotic papers, then broke out my Independence Day Cricut Cartridge, and started looking through the images until I found one that I thought would be a good focal point. The rest of the page, just fell into place, and I absolute love how it turned out. Now on to come up with another great idea for this year's pictures :) Materials Used: Cricut: Independence Day, Phrases, Home Décor, and Plantin Schoolbook Paper: DCWV Textured Cardstock, Recollections Cardstock, and The Paper Studio All Seasons II paper pack Other: Ribbon from scraps stash, foam tape, black sharpie, and Tea Dye Distress Ink by Tim Holtz
Happy Monday and welcome to another Monday challenge! Challenge #203 Bye Bye Birdie Bye Bye Birdie Create a project with a bird on it. To qualify for the prize, be sure to use at least 1 Cricut cut on your project and if it's not obvious, let us know what cartridge you used. Here is my project for the week: I took these pictures of my son, Dallas, way back in November 2013, and I'm just getting around to scraping them. This was his 6 year photo shoot, and they were taken outside his elementary school. I love the fall look of the pictures, with all the trees and the fall colors, so I wanted a scrapbook page that would reflect that as well. I used a lot of different cartridges to make this layout, but it was worth the extra effort. I used Cindy Loo for the tree, Doodlecharms for the leaves, Home Decor for the bird, Opposites Attract for the "T" in Thankful, and Cursive 101 for the rest of the word. I didn't like the T, so found one that I liked better. I used a Spectrum Noir marker to "edge" the leaves, Tim Hotz Tea Dye Distress Ink to ink the edges of the paper and the tree, colored in the bird using a red and orange Glaze pen, and then popped the bird up using some foam tape.
Happy Monday and welcome to another Monday challenge! Challenge #199: All About You Use your favorite colors To qualify for the prize, be sure to use at least 1 Cricut cut on your project and if it's not obvious, let us know what cartridge you used. This we were challenged to create a project, using at least 1 Cricut cut, with our favorite color. If you haven't guessed already, my favorite color is PURPLE!!! I'm not sure why I am drawn to purple, but I always have been, and tend to "collect" things in the color....clothes, pens, paper, you get the idea. The first truck I ever bought for myself, was you guess it....purple. That was actually the only requirement, LOL. I drove the wheels off that little purple Ford Ranger. For my project, I wanted to use my new Edge to Edge cartridge, so I found this great cut, that looks a bit like a modern lattice. Then I cut the title and brackets using the font from Designer's Calendar. Next I matted the pictures of the flowers my husband had bought me throughout the year (I'm a pretty lucky girl - and he knows I love purple, so he bought me sterling roes, which are purple - aren't they gorgeous?) The last thing I did was a bit of pen work using a purple Glaze pen and a purple Zig pen, put it all together and added purple paper flowers. I really love how it turned out. I don't normally do monochromatic pages, but this one turned out perfect, and now I will be able to enjoy my flowers for years to come. Materials Used: Cricut: Edge to Edge and Designers' Calender Paper: Recollections cardstock Pens: Purple Zig and Purple Glaze Other: paper flowers and rhinestone hearts from Michaels. Happy Monday and welcome to another Monday challenge with FCCB! Challenge #95 Mix and Match Use 3 different patterns of paper Winner will receive the Funny Valentine stamp set To qualify for the prize, be sure to use at least 1 Cricut cut on your project and if it's not obvious, let us know what cartridge you used. This week we were challenged to use 3 different pattern papers and at least 1 Cricut cut. This was a bit hard for me, as I don't mix a lot of patterns, I don't feel that I am good at choosing complementary patters. So, to make this a little easier, I chose papers that matched in color more than trying to mix the pattern. The base paper has a text with blue birds. The photo mat paper is blue with a white diamond shape, then the embellishments are yellow and grey and have a light white pattern on them. Then for a pop of color, I used the yellow and green paper flowers, which some of them have a pattern on them as well. I inked the edges of all the papers, and cut the title using the Opposites Attract cartridge. The shapes came from the Disney Cars cartridge, it's the stop sign without the word. Also, you will notice a small grey piece of cardstock tucked behind the photo, this is where I hid my journaling. This project is dedicated to Miss Pam, who was my son, Dallas' daycare teacher for the last two years. It was really sad to leave her, as she is like family, but Dallas had to head off to "big boy school" and go to Kindergarten.
Happy Monday and welcome to another Monday challenge!
Challenge #193
Winter Fun
Create a winter inspired project
For my project, I made a scrapbook page of my son's first school performance. It was a winter music performance with lots of Christmas carols, put on by the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. I love, love, love this page and how it turned out, even though the picture from my iPhone is not real great.
To make this page, I cut the music notes and staff, as well as the title using the Groovy Times and Type Candy cartridges. Next I found all the pattern papers I wanted to used, and inked all the edges using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Then it was as easy as putting it all together. One of my new favorite things to use is the Lines2Journal stamp set from the Stamps of Life. It makes handwriting journaling so much easier and it looks a lot better.
